Story of His Life

What I’m going to share with you today is not my personal story but just glimpses if the hardships that I went through and survived. Because mine is boring while this person’s story is very interesting and very inspirational.

But first may I ask the graduating students to please stand up, find your parents and give them a tight hug and whisper to them, I love you ma, I love you pa. Then go to Ma’am Liezel and tell her, Thank you ma’am. The first one to do that has a prize.

May I ask you now to please settle down.

Let me start with the fact that this person has an interesting childhood.

He was born on December 18, 1995 here in Putian, Cuartero. His mom is a teacher and his father is a politician. He grew up enjoying life to its fullest as the following facts may prove.

This person was able to drive a DT Motorcycle when he was in Grade 3. He was small so the DT was unreachable for him, supposedly, but he would find a spot where he can stop and balance the DT while he gets off of it. Now I call that street smart.

Then this person never backs down in fights. He never tolerated any form of bullying. At some point, he’d fight them off with violence. Now, that’s not me. I remember so well that when I was bullied, I’d cry my heart out in the corner of our room, not even reporting the incident to our teacher. I tolerated it, thus, I’m an enabler. But when I heard his story, it made me think, why didn’t I fight back in any form?

Then this kid has a lot of diving skills. He can literally back dive or he can dive from a bike and get his head stitched. Then in high school, this person is a computer addict. He’d bet belted for it. Not belting in singing but literally get belted. He can drive a car at such a young age, high school. But all I could ever drive then was a bike. Like, how in the world could he do that?

Then in college, he got hooked off in computer games and developed a new hobby. That’s cutting off classes so he can play volleyball. And he was good at it. Very good in fact. Now, it’s okay if you’re taking a non-demanding course but he was taking Engineering in CPU. So naturally, if you don’t meet the requirements, then there’s a possibility that you’ll fail and if you failed any subject and you’ve accumulated at least 15 5s, then you’ll be kicked out from their department.

Now THAT was his waking point. Since then, he became afraid of failing and took studying seriously, that was his status when I met him. And so, he graduated from the Central Philippine University in 2019 with a degree in Electrical Engineering totaling to 7 years in college but he took the board exam once and passed with an average grade of 81%. Now, he has kids and he has a lawyer as a wife.

He was given a TANING, so he took things seriously. See? He could do anything he puts his mind into.

So, you see, we are the complete opposite when it comes to our stories of success, because our stories are created to be just like that. While I was seriously planning my future, he was playing. When I got burnt out, he worked hard. Nonetheless, at some point, we reached our goals and are now currently practicing our frustration which we call profession.

What’s the take away here? The lesson is actually, just support your children to whatever their heart takes them but, also guide them, instill in them the values that are most important to you, without forcing them to be someone they are not. If she wants to be a ninja, then she will become a ninja. If he wants to be a doctor, then let her become a doctor.

With your support, your child can achieve ANYTHING that they put their mind into.
